What are the common symptoms of perimenopause or the menopause?

Although symptoms, and the severity of symptoms, can vary, women commonly report:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Hot flushes
  • Brain fog
  • Mood changes
  • Night sweats
  • Breast pain
  • Hair loss
  • Joint pain
  • Intimate dryness
  • Urinary frequency

These symptoms can be experienced months or years before your periods stop. This is called the perimenopause.

Speak to a women’s health GP

If you’re reaching out for the first time, or if you just want advice from an expert, many of our GPs have undertaken the training needed to be accredited by the British Menopause Society. You can speak about your symptoms and discuss the treatment options available in confidence, at your convenience.

Speak to a consultant

You have the option to self-refer to a women’s health consultant. A consultant is more specialist than a GP and can manage and treat more complex cases. If you have already had an appointment with a GP and feel you’d benefit from the additional support, or your symptoms are severely impacting your day to day, this is an option you might want to explore.
